Frequently Asked Questions About Soymilk

Can I make tofu with the 1st soymilk recipe?

Unfortunately not. It doesn’t really work this way.

The 2nd soymilk recipe that involves grinding soybeans first and boiling soymilk later is good for making tofu.

How much water should I add before blending?

The soybeans will become double their size after soaking.

When blending 1 cup of soaked soybeans, you will need to add about 3-4 times this amount of water. You can use boiled soy water as well.

Make sure to calculate what the total amount of ingredients is, so that your blender doesn’t overflow. If you like rich soymilk, use less water.

Should I wash a soymilk bag with soap?

No, because the bag may taste like soap after it’s washed. It is better to wash it well without soap with just hot water. After rinsing it well, hang it up to dry.

What should I do with the soy pulp/texture (called "Biji") after squeezing out pure soymilk?

(Roasting Black Soybean Pulp/"Biji" Powder)

You can save it for later. You can use it when making a soup or stew. It is usually fermented one more additional time to make it a proper soup ingredient.

However, without fermentation, I sometimes add it into a soup directly (Soy pulp from 1st soymilk recipe). You can also make "Soy Pulp Powder" ("Biji Powder") at home. When using pulp from 2nd soymilk recipe, you need to steam and dry the soy pulp well before grinding it finely.

Or you can grind it finely after roasting the wet soy pulp and add it into your milk shake. You can add this soy pulp powder/"Biji" powder when making soymilk pancakes or other foods

Can I make soymilk pancakes?

Yes! The texture of pancakes will be silky and soft when made with homemade soymilk, especially with the 1st soymilk recipe. If you want, you can also try it with the 2nd soymilk recipe.

How long can I preserve homemade soymilk?

You can keep about two liters (half a gallon) in a refrigerator for about 4-7 days.

Is first homemade soymilk good for facials?

Yes, the rich protein and estrogen in the soymilk will moisturize your skin. When massaging your face, you can mix honey, avocados, egg yolks, and soymilk together. You will notice that your skin is rejuvenated after applying this soy mixture to your face. Your skin will look soft and shiny. However, results may vary from person to person.

Can you use black bean milk/soup in the same recipes?

Yes, you can drink the black bean milk/soup after filtering it, but if you don't want to waste the black bean pulp, you just drink it like a soup after blending it.

Black bean soup contains 4 times more vitamin E than soybeans. Black bean powder is healthy, too. You can get many benefits from using black bean powder, including shiny hair, rejuvenated skin, and a scalp that isn’t as itchy.

Does the Nutritional Value of Soy Change after Cooking?

Yes, according to the soy nutritional chart, soybean nutrition facts can be changed depending on how you cook it.

You can’t eat raw soy because of the chemical reaction that occurs when you digest it.

However, soy still contains no cholesterol, lots of essential amino acids, minerals, and proteins even after it’s cooked.
