Seaweed Soymilk Soup

If you love vegetable soup, this seaweed soymilk soup has great, new flavors that you and your family can try.

If you live near the beach, sea vegetables like seaweed and kelp are free, natural foods that you can gather to use in this dish if it is permitted. (Make sure that the beach from which you are getting food isn’t contaminated.)

If you watch a documentary that shows the habitat of polar bears, you will see that a polar bear’s favorite vegetables are seaweed, such as kelp. Polar bears get lots of minerals and vitamins from seaweed.

Seaweed removes toxins from the blood in the body. Seaweed soup is a well-known food for mothers who have just given birth and need to breast-feed their baby. Seaweed soup helps women’s bodies make more breast milk.

When making soymilk soup, the soup becomes creamy and smooth without any other additives. Adding seaweed into your soy diet will help improve your health without sacrificing flavor.

Ingredients

  • One handful dried or wet seaweed
  • ¾ c. soybeans (soaked for about 8 hours)
  • 2-3 TBS sesame oil
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • 1 beef bouillon cube (optional)
  • ½ can of cream of mushroom soup (optional)
  • Rice or noodles (optional)

Directions:

  1. If you are using dried seaweed, soak it in hot water for several hours to allow its leaves to expand. The seaweed should expand to twice its size. If you are using wet seaweed, wash it well.
  2. Boil the soaked soybeans (which should have been soaked for about 8 hours) for ten minutes.

  3. After they have cooled down for about 7-10 minutes, make soymilk.
  4. Cut seaweed into pieces that are about 2-3 inches long.

  5. On high heat, put some sesame oil in a pot and stir in the seaweed. Stir for about 5-10 minutes. (Stirring the seaweed longer makes it taste more flavorful.)

  6. When the seaweed looks soft and tender, add some soymilk (Option: Add 1/2 can of cream of mushroom soup). Boil for another 10 minutes.
  7. Add beef bouillon cube, salt, and pepper to taste. Serve when hot or warm.

(Yield: 4-5 servings)

Seaweed soymilk soup is good with rice or noodles.

Option: You can use sliced beef instead of beef bouillon cubes for a better taste. You can just use salt and pepper for natural seaweed and soymilk flavor.
