Homemade SOYMILK Recipes

How to Make Soymilk
A Step-by-Step
Guide

Need soymilk recipes?

If you buy soybeans from an Asian market or a natural store, you can inexpensively make plenty of soymilk.

It is very important to purchase high-quality soybeans as you have step-by-step soymilk recipes.

So, how do you know the soybeans you are purchasing are high-quality?

High-quality soybeans are shiny and have a smooth, round shape. They are a creamy, light-tan color and don’t have many dark spots. They usually cost about a few dollars more than other soybeans, but it is well worth it for good soymilk.

The most flavorful homemade soymilk recipe is . . . boiling the soybeans first and blending them later(1st soymilk recipe below)

TWO Soymilk Recipes: Simply click the links below to see them and see also Soymilk Nutrition Facts, soymilk vs. milk:

All soymilk recipes introduce you to the concept of blending the raw soybeans first and boiling the soymilk later. This is a common idea in all the recipes out there, including the second soymilk recipe in this article.

On the other hand, the flavor and taste of the first soymilk recipe is almost the exact opposite from the well-known way. You can try making soymilk both ways to compare and find your favorite.

However,

I always boil the beans first and blend them later. Then I drink the soymilk right after I make it, without adding any flavorings.

  • First, it smells good when it’s blended.
  • Second, the color is a natural light-yellow, just like the color of soybeans.
  • Third, it has an appealing, unique flavor.
  • Fourth, it has a smooth, silky texture.

How to Make Soymilk

Ingredients For Soymilk:

1 1/4 c. soybeans
7-8 c. water
Millstone or Blender
Hemp or Cotton Bag

1st soymilk

  1. Rinse the soybeans well and put them in a big container. (They will become double their size as they soak.)

  2. Soak them for about 8-10 hours (spring and fall-9 hours, summer-6 hours, winter-12 hours) or over-night, and use them the next day. Soaking them overnight is the easiest way.

  3. Rinse them again before using them. (For black bean milk, you can re-use the water in which the beans were soaked.)

  4. Put the beans into a pot and place them on the stove at high heat. When they start boiling, lower the temperature to medium heat, so that it doesn’t overflow. Remove some of the floating soy skin and bubbles.
  5. Taste them after boiling for about 7 minutes. This way, you will know what the soybeans taste like. It is a good idea to use a timer.
  6. Boil them for 3 more minutes, for a total of ten minutes, and turn off the stove. Taste the soybeans so you know what they taste like after being boiled for ten minutes. If you boil them for more than 10 minutes, you will smell a strong odor. Don’t overcook them unless you plan on making fermented soy paste.
  7. Let the soybeans cool down until they are warm.

  8. You can grind the soy and water in two separate portions; this will make them more manageable. Blend them with a blender or other grinding machine, such as a millstone or juicer, for about 10 minutes for a smooth and silky texture. That way the blender can break down the soybeans to make them as smooth as possible. Blending for around 5-7 minutes will work if you want to drink the soymilk right away.

  9. Pour the soymilk in the fabric bag and squeeze it to get out all the soymilk until the soybean pulp remains.

  10. After squeezing the bag, the soymilk is done. Even though you can boil it again, the soy flavor doesn’t change, and it is safe to drink at this point. In fact, the BEST way to drink soymilk is when it’s warm, right after it has been filtered. You can also add your own flavors at this time, such as chocolate, strawberry, or vanilla flavoring, etc.
  11. After filtering the soymilk, you can add a pinch of ginger powder to remove the soy smell if you desire, mixing it in using a blender. You can also blend in your favorite vegetables or fruits, such as spinach, carrots, or bananas. In this way, you can remove the soy odor without losing the soy flavor. I like to mix in spinach, because it contains high amounts of vitamin C.

  12. Soymilk and soy pulp after filtering process.

In My Personal Preference of Homemade Soymilk,

After blending for 10 minutes, you just drink the soymilk without the additional hassle of filtering it. You will get tired of squeezing the blended soybeans to filter out the pulp.

This way, you can drink the soy pulp and soymilk combined without wasting any soybeans. After filtering the soybeans, the rest of the soy pulp can be used in a soup. If you are trying to build muscle, you can add soy/black bean and sesame seed powder to the soymilk and drink this mixture after exercising.

In addition, you can find more fun soy recipes under tofu fries. With this 1st soymilk recipe, you can make some soy foods, such as soymilk noodles, soymilk pancake, and seaweed soymilk soup.

    2nd soymilk

    1. Rinse the soybeans or black beans well and soak them in water about 8-12 hours.
    2. Blend the soaked soybeans or black beans in two separate portions. 1 cup of soybeans needs about 3-4 cups of water to grind in a blender.
    3. After blending the soybeans, pour the milk and pulp into a hemp-cloth bag to filter out the pulp. Squeeze the bag to get out all of the liquid.
    4. Pour the soymilk into a big pot and set the stove on high heat. You must stir the soymilk continuously throughout this step. Otherwise, it will burn on the bottom.

When the soymilk begins to boil, quickly turn the stove down to medium heat. Keep the soymilk at a boil for about 3-5 minutes, until the soymilk begins to smell strongly. It can overflow quickly, so make sure you watch it while you stir. Remove the bubbles so it doesn’t overflow; this excess soy-milk can be used later in a soup if you would like. The soymilk is done.

    5. After this step, if you are interested in making tofu, you can continue the process by going to the article How to Make Tofu

    6. Otherwise, you add your favorite flavoring, such as chocolate, vanilla, or strawberry flavoring after chilling the soymilk. You may also want to try adding ginger powder, black sesame seed powder, fruits or vegetables instead. You can also make strawberry soy ice cream with homemade soymilk.
